The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued a 25-year-old woman during an operation targeting human trafficking and other organised crimes. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable persons.

According to police authorities, the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence, while the victim was successfully rescued before she could be moved to an undisclosed destination. Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman may have been deceived with false promises before falling into the suspect’s custody.

Police said the rescued woman is receiving the necessary care and support while investigators work to uncover the full extent of the trafficking operation and identify other individuals who may be connected to the syndicate. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

The command reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities involving the recruitment, movement or exploitation of individuals. It also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and verify employment or travel offers before accepting them.

Authorities assured that anyone found involved in human trafficking or related offences would face prosecution in accordance with the law as efforts continue to curb the crime across the country.

The Nigerian naira strengthened significantly against the British pound in the official foreign exchange market, closing at ₦1,814 per £1, marking its strongest performance against the British currency in July.

The latest appreciation reflects the naira’s continued recovery against the pound this year. The local currency has gained considerable ground from the ₦1,950/£ level recorded toward the end of last year, indicating improved stability in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

Market analysts attributed the rebound to ongoing reforms in the foreign exchange market and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s efforts to clear outstanding FX backlogs. These measures have helped narrow the gap between the official and parallel market exchange rates while reducing opportunities for currency arbitrage.

The pound-naira exchange rate has recently traded within a relatively stable range of ₦1,810 to ₦1,830 per pound, suggesting that the market is experiencing a period of consolidation following recent volatility.

Despite the positive movement against the pound, analysts note that the naira’s future performance will continue to depend on factors such as foreign exchange inflows, investor confidence, oil export earnings, and the effectiveness of monetary and fiscal policies aimed at supporting liquidity in the FX market.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals and recovered firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons during intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling crime across the state.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted the suspects during a routine stop-and-search operation. A thorough search reportedly led to the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, and other incriminating items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

In a separate operation, police also arrested another suspect identified as a member of a criminal network while recovering additional weapons and ammunition. The operations form part of the command’s sustained efforts to curb violent crime, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other security threats in Delta State.

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigators work to determine their level of involvement in other criminal activities and identify possible accomplices. Authorities said those found culpable would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
