Côte d’Ivoire Assembly President Patrick Achi Arrives Abuja for GS-26 Summit

The President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Patrick Achi, has arrived in Abuja ahead of the 2026 Gender and Inclusion Summit (GS-26), where he is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Achi, who is also a former Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire, was announced by the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC), organisers of the summit, as the keynote speaker for the high-level gathering focused on gender equality, inclusion and sustainable development across Africa.
Achi to Headline GS-26 in Abuja
The Gender and Inclusion Summit 2026 was held in Abuja from September 7 to 9, with this year’s edition themed “From Agenda to Action: Making Innovations Count for the Last Mile.”
The summit brought together policymakers, government officials, private-sector leaders, academics, civil society organisations and development partners to examine practical ways of translating policy commitments into measurable improvements for underserved communities.
Achi’s participation added a high-level regional perspective to discussions around economic transformation, inclusion and governance.
Focus on Women, Youth and Underserved Communities
According to the organisers, GS-26 placed particular emphasis on ensuring that development initiatives reach women, young people, persons with disabilities and other communities that have historically been excluded from opportunities.
The summit’s discussions covered areas including education, healthcare, economic inclusion, climate resilience, prevention of gender-based violence, transportation and security.
PIC Executive Director Dr Osasuyi Dirisu said Africa does not lack ideas but needs stronger systems, partnerships and accountability mechanisms capable of turning innovations into meaningful outcomes for people at the last mile.
Achi Brings Three Decades of Public Leadership Experience
Achi is an engineer, development strategist and public policy expert with more than three decades of experience spanning infrastructure development, economic policy, institutional reform and public administration.
Before becoming President of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly, he served as Prime Minister of the West African country.
He also participates in international policy initiatives, including as an external adviser to the joint IMF-World Bank Bretton Woods at 80 Initiative and as a member of the World Bank Group’s High-Level Advisory Council on Jobs.
Summit Seeks to Move Beyond Policy Commitments
The organisers said the 2026 summit was designed to shift attention from policy discussions and commitments towards implementation, accountability and measurable impact.
The Policy Innovation Centre said GS-26 builds on the Gender and Inclusion Summit platform established in 2022 and is intended to provide a space for researchers, policymakers, development practitioners and other stakeholders to develop practical approaches to gender and inclusion challenges across Africa.
The summit’s central message was that development should ultimately be measured by the extent to which policies and innovations improve the lives of people who are furthest from opportunities.

Is Love Without Billing Possible In Southern Nigeria? —Reno Omokri

I can understand why Moses Bliss married a Ghanaian. I have been to Ghana, and their women tend to be easier to relate with than many Southern Nigerian women. In fact, is love without billing still possible in Southern Nigeria? In our part of the world, ‘He is loving’ means ‘He is spending’. When you tell many Southern Nigerian girls, ‘I love you’, they hear, ‘You owe me’. Especially those with Industrial Money Obtainer culture. If you marry the Industrial Money Obtainers, I pity you. The billing will become industrial. You will look after her and her entire family. No capping. And better not expect gratitude. In their eyes, you are doing your duty.
If Nigeria had visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more countries, there would be an epidemic of unmarried women in Nigeria. Because when Southern Nigerian men travel within Africa and outside Africa and encounter beautiful women who are not money conscious, they quickly lose their appetite for Nigerian women. Already, Nigerian men are considered a catch by South African and Kenyan women.
We urgently need a cultural reorientation amongst our women. Especially in Southern Nigeria. The monetisation of relationships in Southern Nigeria is just too suffocating. I am well-traveled, and I am yet to see the level of commercialisation of romance I have seen in Southern Nigeria. I call it as I see it!
