Iran has announced that it has reached an agreement with Oman on the geographic route for commercial vessels transiting the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant step toward restoring confidence in one of the world’s busiest energy shipping lanes.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said negotiations between Tehran and Muscat had been constructive and that both countries had agreed on the coordinates of the proposed shipping corridor. He added that a joint announcement detailing the arrangement would be issued after final technical reviews, provided there is no external interference.

The proposed framework would see vessels entering the Persian Gulf navigate through an Iran-managed route, while outbound traffic would follow a corridor coordinated with Oman. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Syria’s recovery, reconstruction, and political transition during his landmark visit to Damascus, the first by a serving UN chief since before the country’s civil war began.

US President Donald Trump has approved the process to restore direct commercial flights between the United States and Lebanon, a move announced during Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Washington as both countries seek to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations.

The proposed resumption of direct flights would mark the first such service between the two countries in decades. Officials said the initiative is intended to improve travel, boost business opportunities, and strengthen ties with Lebanon’s large diaspora in the United States.

The announcement came alongside high-level talks between Trump and Aoun, which focused on implementing a US-backed framework aimed at securing long-term peace between Lebanon and Israel, expanding the Lebanese army’s role in the south, and promoting regional stability.

Aoun welcomed the decision, describing stronger transportation links as an important step toward supporting Lebanon’s economic recovery and encouraging investment and tourism. Both leaders also discussed continued US assistance for Lebanon’s security and reconstruction efforts.
