Celine Dion Eyes Major Paris Comeback With 10 Concerts at La Défense Arena as Cryptic Poster Campaign Sweeps the City

Published

on

Celine Dion is poised to make a major concert comeback in France, with Variety confirming a report from French-Canadian newspaper La Presse that she is set to perform at the Paris La Défense Arena — a 40,000-seat venue recently acquired by Live Nation — with two concerts per week scheduled across September and October 2026.

The announcement has been teased in a manner befitting a global superstar. Signs quoting the titles of some of Dion’s most iconic songs — including “My Heart Will Go On,” “Pour que tu m’aimes encore,” and “Power of Love” — have begun appearing across Paris, fuelling intense speculation about an imminent official announcement. The cryptic campaign sent fans and media into a frenzy on Monday as the posters multiplied across the city.

Dion herself has added to the intrigue on social media. She posted a series of photographs of herself in Paris on Instagram, accompanied by the caption “Je sais pas comment te dire…” — translating loosely as “I don’t know how to tell you” — a deliberate and playful tease that has only deepened fan anticipation.

The significance of the concerts extends far beyond a typical tour announcement. These shows would mark Dion’s first full run of live performances since stepping back from touring due to her battle with stiff person syndrome — a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that causes debilitating muscle stiffness and painful spasms, and which forced her to cancel her Courage World Tour in 2023.

The Paris La Défense Arena dates were originally part of that Courage World Tour — first postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then cancelled entirely when her health deteriorated. The 2026 concerts would therefore fulfil a promise to Parisian fans that was made six years ago.

For millions of fans, the moment that rekindled hope for a full comeback came in July 2024. Dion made her stage return by performing an emotional rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour” from the Eiffel Tower during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony — an appearance that moved the world and signalled that the voice which has sold over 200 million records was not finished. The Paris La Défense Arena residency, if confirmed, would be the fullest expression yet of that return.

Published

on

Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has spoken about his decades-long friendship with fellow actress Saje, which dates back to their early days in the movie industry.

According to Quadri, Saje was already close to his wife before the couple married, and she has kept that bond over the years without engaging in gossip. He said she knew about some of his relationships with other women but never passed the information on to his wife, describing her as someone who can be trusted.

The Agba Aki  of Oro Kingdom also recalled a time he considered helping Saje’s husband, Rafiu Balogun, during a difficult period in their marriage. He told Saje that Rafiu wanted to accompany him to a movie location, expecting her to object because of their misunderstanding. Instead, she welcomed the idea. Quadri said he felt obliged to inform her because of her friendship with his wife.
The actor also spoke on pay in the movie industry, insisting he would not expect to earn more than younger colleagues simply because of his experience.

Citing Funke Akindele and Lateef Adedimeji as examples, he said, “If I’m being called to a job, and Funke Akindele and Lateef Adedimeji are going to be paid the same amount, I’m an enemy of God if I’m expecting that they should pay me more than him.”

The veteran actor added that actors negotiate their fees differently. Some accept whatever they are offered, while others insist on the amount they want. He concluded that such differences are simply part of life.

Nigerian Dancer Ben Dancer Completes Seven-Day GWR Marathon in Lagos

Published

on

Nigerian dancer Benjamin Daniel Gabriel, popularly known as Ben Dancer, has completed a seven-day dance marathon in Lagos as he seeks to set a new Guinness World Records title for the longest dance marathon by an individual.

Daniel concluded the physically demanding challenge at about noon on Tuesday at Freedom Park, Lagos, after dancing for more than seven days. His team said the final time recorded was seven days, eight hours, 32 minutes and 59 seconds.

The 33-year-old had initially set a target of 168 hours, hoping to surpass the existing Guinness World Records mark of 127 hours, achieved by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap in 2023.

However, Guinness World Records has not yet officially declared Daniel the new record holder.

A spokesperson for Guinness told the BBC that Daniel’s application remains active and that evidence from the attempt must be submitted and reviewed through the organisation’s verification process before any new record can be confirmed.

Nigerian culture takes centre stage

Throughout the marathon, Ben Dancer incorporated different Nigerian dance styles and musical genres into his performance.

Afrobeats featured prominently, alongside fuji, jazz and zouk. He also appeared at various points in traditional Nigerian outfits, including agbada and dashiki.

According to his team, the performance was designed not only to test his endurance but also to showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversity and different dance traditions.

The challenge attracted large crowds to Freedom Park, with supporters gathering throughout the seven-day performance to encourage the dancer. Videos from the event also circulated widely on social media.

How he managed the challenge

Daniel had reportedly undergone physical training and adjusted his diet ahead of the attempt in preparation for the demands of the marathon.

During the challenge, he was allowed five minutes of rest for every continuous hour of activity. He also maintained hydration and ate lightly, while medical personnel remained available at the venue.

Following the completion of the marathon, Daniel was taken to hospital for a medical check-up.

His evidence will now be submitted to Guinness World Records for assessment. Until the organisation completes its review, the 127-hour mark remains the officially recognised record.
