Chike Reveals His Mother’s Golden Rule on Marriage: Never Settle for a Partner Who Doesn’t Add Value

Published

on

Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike has set social media ablaze with a candid revelation about the most influential relationship advice he has ever received — delivered not by a relationship expert or a therapist, but by his own mother, whose counsel has quietly shaped how the 33-year-old approaches love, compatibility, and the idea of a life partner.

Speaking during an appearance on Ada’s Room podcast, Chike revealed that his mother advised him never to marry a woman who does not have a steady source of income — regardless of how strong his feelings may be for her. It is a position he has clearly internalised deeply, and one he shared with the kind of conviction that suggests it is lived wisdom rather than borrowed theory.

His mother’s reasoning was grounded in practical reality. Marrying from a financially struggling background, or choosing a partner whose extended family members depend heavily on her, carries a weight that love alone cannot always carry — a burden that quietly accumulates and eventually strains even the strongest union.

There was a second layer to the counsel that Chike found equally striking. His mother urged him to be especially cautious about marrying a firstborn child who carries substantial family obligations but lacks the financial productivity to manage them — describing such a scenario as a situation where a man essentially inherits an entire family without having bargained for it.

Chike put it plainly in his own words — no matter how much you care about someone, if they are not productively contributing, and if they also come with the additional weight of unmanaged family burdens, walking away is the wiser choice.

He added that these lessons have fundamentally changed how he approaches romantic interests. He now asks questions early, pays attention to a woman’s lifestyle, family background, and level of productivity before allowing his emotions to deepen — treating compatibility and stability as prerequisites rather than afterthoughts.

His broader message to men was equally direct — think beyond physical attraction and give serious weight to long-term compatibility, shared values, and the practical realities of building a life together. The remarks have since ignited a wide-ranging online conversation about relationship expectations, career standards, and how deeply parental values continue to shape the romantic choices of Nigerian men and women.

Madam Saje Knew About Some Women I Dated but Never Told My Wife – Yinka Quadri

Published

on

Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has spoken about his decades-long friendship with fellow actress Saje, which dates back to their early days in the movie industry.

According to Quadri, Saje was already close to his wife before the couple married, and she has kept that bond over the years without engaging in gossip. He said she knew about some of his relationships with other women but never passed the information on to his wife, describing her as someone who can be trusted.

The Agba Aki  of Oro Kingdom also recalled a time he considered helping Saje’s husband, Rafiu Balogun, during a difficult period in their marriage. He told Saje that Rafiu wanted to accompany him to a movie location, expecting her to object because of their misunderstanding. Instead, she welcomed the idea. Quadri said he felt obliged to inform her because of her friendship with his wife.
The actor also spoke on pay in the movie industry, insisting he would not expect to earn more than younger colleagues simply because of his experience.

Citing Funke Akindele and Lateef Adedimeji as examples, he said, “If I’m being called to a job, and Funke Akindele and Lateef Adedimeji are going to be paid the same amount, I’m an enemy of God if I’m expecting that they should pay me more than him.”

The veteran actor added that actors negotiate their fees differently. Some accept whatever they are offered, while others insist on the amount they want. He concluded that such differences are simply part of life.

Nigerian Dancer Ben Dancer Completes Seven-Day GWR Marathon in Lagos

Published

on

Nigerian dancer Benjamin Daniel Gabriel, popularly known as Ben Dancer, has completed a seven-day dance marathon in Lagos as he seeks to set a new Guinness World Records title for the longest dance marathon by an individual.

Daniel concluded the physically demanding challenge at about noon on Tuesday at Freedom Park, Lagos, after dancing for more than seven days. His team said the final time recorded was seven days, eight hours, 32 minutes and 59 seconds.

The 33-year-old had initially set a target of 168 hours, hoping to surpass the existing Guinness World Records mark of 127 hours, achieved by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap in 2023.

However, Guinness World Records has not yet officially declared Daniel the new record holder.

A spokesperson for Guinness told the BBC that Daniel’s application remains active and that evidence from the attempt must be submitted and reviewed through the organisation’s verification process before any new record can be confirmed.

Nigerian culture takes centre stage

Throughout the marathon, Ben Dancer incorporated different Nigerian dance styles and musical genres into his performance.

Afrobeats featured prominently, alongside fuji, jazz and zouk. He also appeared at various points in traditional Nigerian outfits, including agbada and dashiki.

According to his team, the performance was designed not only to test his endurance but also to showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversity and different dance traditions.

The challenge attracted large crowds to Freedom Park, with supporters gathering throughout the seven-day performance to encourage the dancer. Videos from the event also circulated widely on social media.

How he managed the challenge

Daniel had reportedly undergone physical training and adjusted his diet ahead of the attempt in preparation for the demands of the marathon.

During the challenge, he was allowed five minutes of rest for every continuous hour of activity. He also maintained hydration and ate lightly, while medical personnel remained available at the venue.

Following the completion of the marathon, Daniel was taken to hospital for a medical check-up.

His evidence will now be submitted to Guinness World Records for assessment. Until the organisation completes its review, the 127-hour mark remains the officially recognised record.
